Public copper scuba art sculpture in Cozumel, Mexico
Mexico

This is one of the most popular pieces of public art - a copper/brass sculpture representing what Cozumel island paradise is most famous for - its SCUBA diving and snorkelling coral reefs. On the left is a woman diver and on the right is a man diving. They are surrounded by coral reef fish with an abundancy of sea life. The entire sculpture is surrounded by a fountain in the shape of a starfish.

This sculpture also has a fountain whose water not only shoots up from the bottom but also from around the divers and out of the arch on top. It is very impressive when "on". Usually it is "off" in order to conserve the sculpture as it would otherwise oxidize and not last long.

Every place you would want to eat or shop is within a walking distance from the ferry port which is a 2 minutes walk from this statue. The ferry drops you off hourly in the middle of the island. The nice beaches are a little further to the North, South and to the East and would require a cab or rent a car.
