Mirandela, city wall, door of Santo Antonio, Portugal
Portugal

The door of Santo António is the remnant of a set of three that were torn in the medieval fence of the village. Arched in a high point warhead, in granite masonry and mortar schist, with dimensions of 2.60 m high by 1.80 m wide, it is topped by the terrace of a residence in private hands, but which corresponds to a section of the primitive adarve. Through it, Rua de Santo António, the busiest in the medieval town, communicated with the bridge (built in the 16th century) and the river. From the inside of the arch, the grooves that received the hinges of the old primed gate can still be seen. There are still traces of sections of wall, only a few rows of stone, visible supporting the arch. In front of this door, approximately fifteen meters away, another one opened, in a barbican rest, demolished in 1884, in order to build an Araújo Leite family palace in its place.
