吉林省图书馆成立于1909年（清宣统元年），馆址设在吉林市，1954年随吉林省政府迁至长春市，1957年筹建新馆，1958年建成并试运行，1960年正式开馆。
吉林省图书馆是吉林省文献信息收藏和服务中心，目前拥有300多万册藏书和海量数字化文献信息资源，学科门类齐全，文种涉及中、英、日、俄等。其中古籍线装书41万册，唐人写经、宋元明刻本、稿抄本及名家批校题跋本堪称稀世珍品；民国书刊12万册，伪满资料5万册，颇具史料价值。
吉林省图书馆实行全年天天开放，并提供24小时网上服务。主要服务有：书刊借阅、参考咨询、公益讲座、专题展览、教育培训、缩微品阅读、视听服务等。
吉林省图书馆作为中国国家数字图书馆吉林省分馆、全国文化信息资源共享工程吉林省分中心，不断引进、应用高新技术，为读者提供多元化、深层次服务。2008年，联合吉林省公共、高校、科研图书馆，建立了吉林省图书馆联盟，实现资源互利、优势互补、共建共享，为吉林省社会发展提供文献保障。
