In 1934, during the Italian ocupation of Dodekanise (1912-1947) and with the Decision of the Governor Mario Lago, began the construction of the "Reale Istituto di Ricerche Biologiche di Rodi" (Royal Marine Institut of Biology of Rodos'). The design and construction of the Building situated at "Mills in Accra" in the northern cape of the island, are the work of the italian architect Armando Bernabiti. The architect combines indigenous elements with Art Deco elements and gives a nautical aesthetic, characterized by curves, round windows like a ship and a central cylindrical tower. The decor in the main entry is inspired from the animals of the marine environment.
