Freyung - Kirche Außenansicht

When Freyung has become an independent parish, can not be accurately determined. In the porch of the parish church an ancient grave monument can be seen, which says that Berthold hacker builder and pastor of this church, died in 1380th.

The oldest parish church Freyunger was a tall, brick-vaulted late Gothic building. The tower stood on the west side and wore a peaked roof, which was only in 1739 replaced by a baroque onion.

The church stood until 1872 amid the narrow cemetery, which was surrounded by a wall and several buildings, f.e. schoolhouse, Mesnerhaus and municipal chamber. Since 1652 the Sebastiani- chapel was next to the parish church.

With the progressive colonization of the huge Wolf Forst forest of Freyunger parish, which eventually expanded in the 18th century up to the frontier of Bohemia grew. Branch churches there since the 14th century with St. Anna in Kreuzberg and since the 15th century with St. Nikolaus in Grainet. Grainet 1750 was elevated to parish and Kreuzberg in 1751 for "exposed Kooperatur".

At the turn of the 19th century belonged to the large parish Freyung except the market Freyung and Wolfenstein Castle villages Ahornöd, Herzogsreut, Kaining, Linden, Marchhäuser, Oberdorf, Location, Philippsreut, Pittersberg, Promau, front and Hinterschmiding, Schönbrunn, Solla , Sonndorf, Speltenbach, Vorderfirmiansreut and angle Brunn, and the hamlet Heldengut and simplicity mountain.

The priest lived in the parsonage "in Froschau", which was built in 1732 under the then minister Dr. Andreas Franz X. Engstler.

But the parsonage was not only the home of the pastor, but also the center of a large farmstead, with around 70 Tagwerk reason farmed by the pastor himself with male and female slaves.

For parish since the late Middle Ages was a parish school in which a schoolmaster reading, writing, arithmetic, and some from the 17th century, the "Christian doctrine" mediated. The schoolmasters were under the pastors and were also organist, sexton, the church clerk invoice and market Schreiber, so supplement their meager incomes. There is no obligation to attend school did not exist at that time. Only in 1806, with membership of Bavaria, the "Normal School" and compulsory education was introduced.
