旧宣教師館の二階は５つの部屋に分かれている。その中の西側に位置する一室に入った時、まず最初はその明るさが強く印象に残ったのだが、しばらくして窓からの視界の広さ、足元まで開かれた通常では得られない視界の広さに心を奪われた。二階のガラス窓が床まで広がっているのはあまり例がないのではないだろうか。
旧宣教師館は上から見ると「浅い凹型（但し凹の後方に玄関と階段が突き出しているのだが）」となっている。二階の東側と西側（写真の部屋）とは僅かながら突き出した部分が向かい合わせになっているのだが、その向かい合わせになった部分に窓が設置されている。これは「互いを見ることのできる窓」によるコミュニケーション（相手の様子をうかがう）という意味があるという。最初この建物を見学した時に、この宣教師館に滞在する外国人教師がどのような家族構成なのかわからなかったのだが、参照先のWebページに「カナダ婦人伝道協会から次々に派遣されて来られた宣教師の先生方、そして多くのＪスリー（日本滞在３年契約）の若い婦人宣教師の先生方」と書かれていたことから、当初は単身で来日した「若い婦人宣教師」がおそらくは二名、同居のお手伝いさんに助けられながらこの住宅で生活していたことが想像される。その二人の若い教師が、窓越しのコミュニケーションをしている様子は、想像してみると微笑ましさを感じるのだが、それはこの住宅の設計思想の「優しさ」でもあるのかもしれない。
なお、二つの部屋に挟まれた位置に、若干狭い部屋がもう一つ設けられているのだが、図面には「ＧＵＥＳＴ」と記載されているため、おそらくは来客用の寝室だったのではと想像される。
この部屋の西側にはもう一か所窓が設けられているのだが、この窓の位置は「ベッドに横たわった時に浅間神社が見える位置」なのだそうだ。細部まで心憎い演出がされている。
