Mural in West Concord Massachusetts Two
USA

"As part of West Concord’s first public art initiative, in connection with its new Massachusetts Cultural Council arts district status, two artists will be painting a mural from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 27, and the community is welcome to join in.

The mural will go up on the wall at Twin Seafood that faces Concord Teacakes on Commonwealth Avenue in West Concord. The effort is part of a plan to develop the space between the two businesses into a public plaza, with cobblestones, plantings, tables and chairs. Construction of that project begins in late June or early July.

To facilitate the mural, the town’s Planning Division, in collaboration with the West Concord Advisory Committee, applied for and received from the MCC a $5,000 Cultural District Initiative Grant. Bradford Mill’s ArtScape artists Stephen Kivimaki and Laura Tilus-Korhonen were chosen to be the leads on the project. They started painting May 15.

Kivimaki, who is a classically trained artist working and practicing in the style of 17th century French academic tradition, said they had two proposals dealing with different aspects of West Concord’s history, and are trying to mix historical and modern references.

Tilus-Korhonen, who has a freeform independent style and takes her inspiration from details of nature, people and animals, said they designed the mural with the hope that people will sit and eat outside to look upon a calming and relaxing representation of the town in which they live.

There is no name yet for the mural. The artists are considering “Wheels of Time,” “Crossroads of History,” “Wheels of Connection” and “Wheels of Community.” Concord Journal

More About USA

The United States is one of the most diverse countries on earth, jam packed full of amazing sights from St. Patrick's cathedral in New York to Mount Hollywood California. The Northeast region is where it all started. Thirteen British colonies fought the American Revolution from here and won their independence in the first successful colonial rebellion in history. Take a look at these rolling hills carpeted with foliage along the Hudson river here, north of New York City. The American south is known for its polite people and slow pace of life. Probably they move slowly because it's so hot. Southerners tend not to trust people from "up north" because they talk too fast. Here's a cemetery in Georgia where you can find graves of soldiers from the Civil War.The West Coast is sort of like another country that exists to make the east coast jealous. California is full of nothing but grizzly old miners digging for gold, a few gangster rappers, and then actors. That is to say, the West Coast functions as the imagination of the US, like a weird little brother who teases everybody then gets famous for making freaky art.The central part of the country is flat farmland all the way over to the Rocky Mountains. Up in the northwest corner you can find creative people in places like Portland and Seattle, along with awesome snowboarding and good beer. Text by Steve Smith.
