Cape Meares is now a pleasant and peaceful Oregon State Park. But for several years after the Coast Guard decommissioned the lighthouse in 1963, it was heavily vandalized, parts of the lenses stolen, and several buildings had to be torn down. Another incident occurred in 2010 when two drunk local men shot up the light and its Fresnel lens.
