West Side Harbor Line
Kaohsiung

The West Side Harbor Line Cycling Path was the old harbor line railroad built during the ruling period of Japanese Emperor Showa and used to serve as an important function of cargo transportation for the Port of Kaohsiung.Under the great efforts of Kaohsiung City Government, Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau released the harbor lands in 2005.After removing the wires and the high walls, the City Government has transformed the lands into a cycling path of a safe and independent route free of cars and motorcycles.

With plants along both sides, the cycling path passes through attractions, including: Hamasen in Gushan District, National Sun Yat-sen University in Sizihwan, Shoushan and Gushan Ferry Station to the west.Towards the south, cyclists may start their ride from the Fisherman’s Wharf through the Love Pier and Guangrong Pier to Singuang Ferry Wharf, Singguang Waterfront Park, Dock 5 and the Dream Mall shopping center. The total length of the cycling path is 5.5 kilometers.

This is the only cycling path in Taiwan that allows cyclists to ride along the century-old railroad while enjoying the romantic harbor view.Cycling at dawn, sunset or at night will all bring you completely different experiences.
