The Transamerica Pyramid from Montgomery Street
This strategic location was the site of the Montgomery Block, an important center of activity for early San Francisco. It was built in 1853 on what was then the waterfront, and at four stories was the tallest building in the west. It was demolished in 1959 and replaced by the Transamerica Pyramid.
