The Kelpies are mythological beasts with a name derived from the Scottish Gaelic term ‘calpa’ meaning ‘heifer’ or ‘colt’. They are the largest equine sculptures in the world. Each stands 30 metres high and weighs 300 tonnes.

They are located in Falkirk, adjacent to the Forth and Clyde Canal and were erected as a monument to Scotland's horse-powered heritage. Their creator, the sculptor Andy Scott modelled them on two Clydesdale horses, a strong breed that once pulled barges up and down Scotland's canals.
