The south gate i the medeival city wall of Visby. Originally it was only the opening in the middle but to make it easier for pedestrians the two openings on either side were made. In the sixties this place had the only traffic lights in the town. Now traffic has been limited to those living inside the city walls and necessary transports.
Visby was a member of the medieval German trade association the Hansa and is now a popular place for tourists. Visby is on the UNESCO list of world heritage centers since 1995.
