Mangrove Planters, Ampara District

When the tsunami stuck the east coast of Sri Lanka in December 2004, many acres of mangrove forest along the coast were destroyed by the wave. UNEP, with the help of the local forest department gave seedlings to the local community, they grew them until they were ready to replace the destroyed mangrove. This image was taken for The United Nations Environment Programme.
