Loy Khatrong and Yi Peng at Lotus Lake
Thailand

The Loy Krathong and Yi Peng Lantern Festival at Lotus Lake is a mesmerizing celebration of light, tradition, and spirituality, held annually in Thailand, particularly in the serene setting of Lotus Lake. This enchanting event brings together two of Thailand’s most iconic festivals, Loy Krathong and Yi Peng, creating a breathtaking spectacle of floating lanterns, glowing sky lanterns, and cultural festivities.

Loy Krathong, known as the "Festival of Lights," takes place on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month. Locals and visitors gather around the lake to release krathongs—small, intricately decorated boats made from banana leaves and flowers, which carry candles, incense, and sometimes coins. The floating of these krathongs symbolizes the letting go of misfortune and the act of paying respects to the goddess of water, Phra Mae Khongkha. As the krathongs drift across the shimmering surface of Lotus Lake, the scene is nothing short of magical, with flickering lights reflecting off the water, creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
