The abandoned Balya flotation waste tailings dam contains appr. 90.000 m3 of toxic mining waste. Metals such as Cd, Pb and Zn migrate by cappilary flow and precipitate as sulfates during the dry summer evaporation and are washed into the nearby stream during winter rains.
