Chapel of S. Tiago in the Church of São Gonçalo, which had belonged to the Cerqueira Rabbits, knights of the Order of Santiago. This chapel was agreed, in 1564, between the Dominicans and Francisco Cerqueira, for the following: the friars of São Gonçalo ordered the demolition of the Chapel of S. Tiago, existing in the ancient hermitage of São Gonçalo or in its surroundings, and the Cerqueiras would receive in exchange, one of the chapels of the new Church. With this agreement, the Dominicans could continue the construction of the conventual Church and the Cerqueiras would preserve their patron and the respective family mausoleum in what turns out to be the most important church in Amarante.

Amarante would be a physical frontier of entry into the Minho region. From its Roman bridge, the foundations and the biface cruise remain, popularly known as Nossa Senhora da Ponte, with the representation of the Virgin Mary with Jesus Christ Dead in her arms (Nossa Senhora da Piedade) on one side, and of the Crucified Christ on the other, typology is frequent in Galicia. The altarpiece façade of the Church of S. Gonçalo shows clear similarities with the portals of the Church of São Domingos, in Viana do Castelo), Church of São Martinho Pinário, in Santiago de Compostela and the Collegiate of Santiago, in Cangas, Pontevedra along the Camino de Santiago.
