Rotunda St. Georg
Slovakia

Originally a Romanesque building dates probably from the turn of the 12th and 13 century (the latest, however, indicates the first half of the 11th century). In later times, was rebuilt in Gothic and Baroque. The upper part, connected with the fortification, fulfills the function of defense, the lower part served as a chapel. From the Gothic period, the interior is preserved fragments of wall paintings, depicting the theme from the legend of St.. George. The frescoes were restored in the years 1995-1996. In 2002 she was installed in the rotunda of the museum permanent exhibition Záhorský thematically focused just on the performance of the oldest preserved monument in Skalica. In 2005 an extensive reconstruction of the area around the rotunda and Calvary, the information system created by lighting.
