Wasserburg Bad Vilbel.
Östlich von Frankfurt am Main, im südlichen Teil der Wetterau, einem sehr fruchbaren Lanstrich zwischen Vogelsberg und Taunus, liegt Bad Vilbel. Im Zentrum der Stadt, im Burgpark, am Ufer der Nidda - eine romantische Flusslanschaft mitten in der Stadt - stehen die Reste einer alten Wasserburg. Einst Wohnsitz der Ritter von Vilbel. Die ältesten Bauteile stammen aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Nach der Zerstörung durch französiche Truppen im Jahr 1796 wurde die Burg nicht wieder aufgebaut.
Ein erhaltenes Seitengebäude und der Turm werden heute als Museum genutzt. 1986 kam man auf die Idee neues Leben in das alte gemäuer zu bringen. Nur ein Jahr später fanden die ersten Burgfestspiele statt.
Aufgrund der großen Erfolge wurde beschlossen, die Festspiele in Bad Vilbel zur regelmäßigen Einrichtung werden zu lassen.
