Formosa Boulevard
Kaohsiung

The Formosa Boulevard (on Jhongshan Road) is named to commemorate the 1979 Formosa Incident. The boulevard is the major north-south route with busy traffics and an underground MRT red line station beneath it.On the ground level, the road section is redesigned to allocate spaces of 11.5 meters wide for pedestrian and cycling paths. There are various scenic attractions along the boulevard, especially the new urban image designed by the Japanese master of architecture, Shin Takamatsu, on a former roundabout in Kaohsiung. The new image is created upon the ground by glasses for the concept of “Prayer”.Combining with the “Dome of Light” painted by “Narcissus Quagliata” at the underground level to express the theme of “Prayer”, the images overall have demonstrated the world-class public art of the Kaohsiung City.
