On mai 23, 2009 the City of Turin welcomed the citizens to see the mole Caterina that successfully reached the future Carducci station, on its way to Lingotto.
Caterina is one of the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines; the others are Valentina, Madama Cristina and Valeria) that have been excavating the tunnels at 20 mt underground for the Turin Metro's Line 1.
The mole is about 8 m. in diameter, its weight is 400 t. (TBM+cart) and it advances about 10 m. a day.
