Cedar Breaks is a natural amphitheater at the edge of the Markagunt plateau, falling down and away from the plateau in spires, hoodoos and narrow canyons. Iron and manganese oxides in the ancient lake sediments produce the shades of red through orange, yellow and purple that seem to glow in the sun.
This picture was taken at Spectra Point, one of the overlooks along the Ramparts Trail, accessed from the main parking lot at the visitor's center.
