Kalyazinsky bell tower
Russia
The bell tower was built in 1800 at the St. Nicholas Cathedral (erected in 1694) of the former St. Nicholas-Zhabensky monastery in the style of classicism; had five tiers, a dome with a head and a spire [1]. The bell tower (height 74.5 m) was rebuilt in 6 years. She had 12 bells. The largest bell in 1038 pounds was cast in 1895 with the money of the monastery in honor of the accession to the throne of Nicholas II. By the 1940s, the Volgostroy project was approved, the beginning of which was laid back in the 1920s. This project provided for the artificial expansion of the Volga River, the creation of hydroelectric power stations in its water area. When creating the Uglich Reservoir, the old part of Kalyazin ended up in a flood zone; the cathedral was dismantled, and the bell tower was left as a lighthouse. As soon as the loaded barges began to walk along the Volga, it became clear that it was impossible to focus on other signs, since a very sharp turn of the river lay here. In archival documents of that time, the bell tower appears as a lighthouse
