Walking along the east bank of the Love River (Hedong Road) towards the estuary, over Wufu Road, and straight along Haibian Road, one arrives at Pier #13.During the war, this pier took a pivotal role in the defense of the country, transporting supplies and enlisted military officers to stations in Kinmen and Matzu.Ever since its “retirement” in 2005, in order to commemorate its splendid history, Kaohsiung City Government has named it “Glory Pier”.From the corridor of the Pier, one can cross the Love River through the old railway bridge, reaching the Love Pier on the other side. Taking a stroll on the pier, you can thoroughly enjoy the expansive scenery of the Love River and the Bay area.During the sunset, the color of pillows of clouds blending together with the hue of the sea will take your breath away.
Other than the Fountain Plaza opened to the public during weekdays for viewing the bay scenery, there are also many artistic and cultural events taking place here on holidays, such as the annual Maritime Expo, New Year’s Eve Party and a variety of concerts, providing an excellent venue for leisure activities. In order to allow the citizens to fully enjoy the government-developed facilities that showcase the vivacity of the shores, Love Pier, Glory Pier and Singuang Ferry Wharf are gradually synergized into a complete, expansive sightseeing spot that can elevate both the trade development and recreational functions, allowing all citizens to relish all that it has to offer.
